Only three ships are ordered from Boston shipyards this year.

Only two are built in 1743, down from 40 in 1735. By 1749 only 15 vessels are launched from the town’s shipyards, and much of the shipbuilding industry moves to Newbury and Newburyport. One reason for the decline is that suitable timber becomes less available close to Boston.
